Accent & Feature Walls in Holly Springs, NC
Holly Springs housing is young, which means almost nothing needs repairing and almost everything is still exactly as the builder handed it over. Flat drywall, a builder-grade fireplace, and a great room waiting for somebody to do something with it.
A town of new houses and blank walls
Holly Springs grew from a small town to one of the fastest-growing in Wake County inside about fifteen years, and the housing stock reflects that almost perfectly. The overwhelming majority of it is under twenty years old.
That produces a very specific kind of call. Nobody here is ringing about a wall that has failed. They are ringing about a wall that is fine and boring — the great room the builder handed over as flat painted drywall, and the fireplace that was specified to hit a price point.
Why new houses are the easy version of this job
A feature wall in a 1995 house starts with a day of preparation: skimming sprayed texture flat, checking a substrate that has moved for twenty years, working around trim that is no longer manufactured.
Very little of that applies here. The drywall is flat, the framing is straight and on standard centres, there is no plaster, no settlement to speak of, and nothing original that has to be matched. The job goes almost straight to the interesting part.
It also means the finish is more predictable. A slat wall on a genuinely flat substrate stays flat, and the shadow gaps read evenly across the whole run rather than deepening where the wall bellies out.
The builder fireplace
Nearly every home in 12 Oaks, Sunset Ridge, Holly Glen and the newer sections has one of a small number of standard fireplace specifications. A modest mantel, a tiled or cast surround, and a framed bump-out sized for exactly that.
Rebuilding it floor to ceiling is one of the most cost-effective changes available in these houses, precisely because the expensive part — the framing, the firebox, the flue — is already in place and already square. What changes is the surface, the scale and what is set into it.
The usual version is the surround extended to the ceiling in slat, tile or panelled moulding, the TV mount built into the framing above it, and the wiring buried so nothing is visible in the finished room.
The heat question, answered honestly
Mounting a television above a fireplace is the single most common request that comes with this job, and the answer depends on your firebox rather than on what we would prefer to sell you.
Some units put very little heat up the face and a TV above them is fine. Some do not, and a mantel shelf or an offset changes the answer. We check what actually comes off the top before designing the wall around it, and if the position would slowly cook your television we will say so first.
Lighting
LED channels are recessed into the build, set back so the light washes the surface, and diffused so the run reads as a line. Because the framing here is new and predictable, running the low-voltage cabling inside the cavity is genuinely simple — there are no surprises behind the drywall.
Anything requiring a new circuit or a switch in a new position goes to a licensed electrician, and you hear that at the quoting stage rather than mid-build.
Getting a price
A wide photo of the wall, the ceiling height, and a picture of the look you are after. Holly Springs is ten minutes from us, so if anything is unclear from the photos, coming to look is not a scheduling problem.
Nothing is wrong with the wall, which is the point
Most of the housing here went up between the mid-2000s and the late 2010s. The drywall is flat, the framing is straight and predictable, and there is no plaster, settlement or old trim to work around. That makes Holly Springs about the fastest place on our list to build a feature wall — the preparation stage that eats a day elsewhere barely exists here.
Builder fireplaces were specified to a budget
The surrounds in 12 Oaks, Sunset Ridge, Holly Glen and the newer sections are almost all the same handful of specifications: a modest mantel, a tiled or cast surround and a bump-out framed for exactly that. Rebuilding them floor to ceiling is straightforward because the structure behind is already there and already square.
Ten minutes from us
Holly Springs is the closest town on our list after Apex itself. For a multi-day build that means consecutive days rather than a job stretched over two weeks, and it means coming back to check a finish is a twenty-minute round trip rather than an afternoon.
Accent Walls we have done

One blank wall turned into the focal point of the room: slat panelling, floating shelves, a floating cabinet and LED strips recessed into the panel.

Fireplace surround rebuilt floor to ceiling in black slat, with the TV bracket and the new firebox set flush into the wall rather than hung on it.
Accent Walls in Holly Springs — questions
Our house is only eight years old. Does it need any prep?
Far less than an older one, which is the good news. Newer drywall is flat and the framing is straight, so the day that goes into skimming texture flat in a 1990s house is mostly not needed here. We still check the plane before fixing anything, because straight is not the same as perfect.
Can you change the builder fireplace without a full renovation?
Yes. The bump-out and the framing are already there and already square, so what changes is the surface and what is set into it. Floor-to-ceiling slat, tile or panelled surrounds all go over the existing structure once it has been checked and furred where needed.
How soon could you start?
Holly Springs is ten minutes from our base, so it is one of the easiest areas to schedule. Send photos and we will give you a real window rather than a vague promise.
