Tile Installation & Repair
Backsplashes, floors and shower walls set on a substrate that will not move, plus repairs to tile that has cracked, lifted or lost its grout.
Flat first, tile second
Almost every tile problem traces back to what is underneath. A floor that is not flat gives you lippage, one tile edge standing proud of the next, which you feel with a bare foot and see under a low light. A substrate that flexes gives you cracked grout, then cracked tile. Waterproofing that was skipped gives you a shower that looks fine for three years and then rots the wall behind it.
So the preparation is the job. Substrate checked for plane and flattened where it needs it, cement board where water is involved, membrane behind anything that gets wet, and movement joints where the tile meets something that moves.
Backsplashes
The most visible tile in most houses and the fastest to turn around. The cuts that matter are the ones nobody notices when they are right: outlets, the return at a window, the top edge where tile meets wall, and the join with the countertop. That last one gets silicone, not grout, because the counter and the wall move independently.
Floors
Bathrooms, entries, laundry rooms, mudrooms. Layout is set out dry before anything is bedded, so cuts land where they are least visible and you do not end up with a sliver of tile in the doorway.
Showers and tub surrounds
Cement board, a waterproof membrane, then tile. Niches, curbs and corners are where showers leak, and they are the parts that get the most attention. Silicone at every internal corner and change of plane.
Repairs and regrouting
Cracked or drummy tiles lifted and replaced, grout raked out properly rather than skimmed over with a thin layer that fails in months, and silicone renewed where it has gone black or pulled away from the edge.
A tiled feature wall is a different job again. That lives with accent and feature walls, where the substrate, the lighting and the tile get planned together.
Getting a price
Photograph the area and give us a rough size in feet, plus what tile you have chosen if you have chosen it. Tile is quoted per project. Full shower installations are worth a short look in person before the number is fixed.
Frequently asked
My grout keeps cracking in the same line. Why?
Grout cracks in a straight line because something underneath is moving, or because that joint should have been silicone rather than grout. Every internal corner and every change of plane needs a flexible joint. Re-grouting the same line will crack the same way.
Can you replace one cracked tile without redoing the floor?
Usually yes, if you have spares or the tile is still sold. The tile is broken out from the centre, the bed cleaned back, and the new one set and grouted to match. The risk is colour: grout that has been down a few years never matches a fresh bag exactly, so we blend it as close as we can and tell you honestly how visible it will be.
Do you do the waterproofing in a shower?
Yes, cement board and a waterproof membrane behind the tile. A shower tiled straight onto drywall will fail, and it fails behind the surface where you cannot see it until the wall does.
How long before I can use it?
Walk on a floor after about 24 hours, use a shower after 48 to 72 depending on the products and the humidity. We would rather give you the honest number than have you back in there too early.
How to get a price
- 01
Fill in the form
A sentence about the job and the address we would be coming to. Rough measurements help but are not essential — the address is the part we cannot work without.
- 02
Get a number
Most jobs are priced from the form without anyone driving out. Bigger projects get a short visit first, and the estimate is free either way.
- 03
Pick a time
The price is agreed before any work starts. We work 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, and take urgent jobs when we can.
