Pricing

The numbers, before you ask.

Most handyman sites make you call to find out whether you can afford them. Here are the actual figures, so you can decide before either of us spends time on it.

What it costs

Minimum job
$100
Covers the visit. Several small jobs in one trip is the cheapest way to use us.
Per hour, from
$60
Used for open-ended work and punch lists where the scope is not fixed up front.
Estimates
Free
Most jobs are priced from what you describe. Larger projects get a free visit before the number is set.

Most work is priced per project rather than by the hour, based on scope and complexity. Whichever way it is calculated, the number is agreed with you before any work begins — there is no invoice at the end that is bigger than the conversation at the start.

How a job actually gets priced

Almost everything is quoted per project. You get one number for the whole piece of work, based on what it involves rather than on how long it happens to take us. That number is agreed before anything starts, and it does not move unless what we find is genuinely different from what was described.

Hourly at $60 an hour is for work that cannot sensibly be scoped in advance: a punch list of a dozen small things, a walk-round of a rental between tenants, or a job where nobody knows what is behind the wall until it is open.

Why bundling saves you real money

The $100 minimum is the single most important thing to understand about the pricing, because it changes how you should use us.

One ten-minute job costs the minimum. Eight small jobs in the same visit also start from the minimum and go up by what the work involves — not by eight separate call-outs. Almost nobody has one thing wrong with their house. Write the whole list, send it at once, and it will cost you noticeably less than dealing with items as they annoy you.

Materials

Billed at cost on top of the labour unless a quote says otherwise. You can supply your own — plenty of people pick their own fixtures, tile, paint or blinds and we fit them. If we buy for you, you get what it cost, not a marked-up figure.

What a free estimate actually means

No call-out fee to come and look, and no charge for the quote itself. Most jobs never need a visit at all: a clear description and a rough measurement is enough to give you a real number the same day. Larger projects — a full feature wall, a deck, a whole exterior — get a short visit first, and that visit is free too.

How to get a price

  1. 01

    Fill in the form

A sentence about the job and the address we would be coming to. Rough measurements help but are not essential — the address is the part we cannot work without.

  2. 02

    Get a number

Most jobs are priced from the form without anyone driving out. Bigger projects get a short visit first, and the estimate is free either way.

  3. 03

    Pick a time

The price is agreed before any work starts. We work 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, and take urgent jobs when we can.

Questions about money

Why is there a minimum charge?

A visit costs the same whether the job takes ten minutes or ninety. The $100 minimum covers turning up. It is also why we push people to bundle: six small jobs in one visit is far better value than six separate call-outs, and most people have six once they start writing the list.

Hourly or per project — how do I know which I am getting?

Per project wherever the scope is clear enough to price, which is most of the time. Hourly is for open-ended work — punch lists, "have a look at these eight things", jobs where nobody can say in advance what is behind the wall. We tell you which one applies before we start.

Does the price ever change once work has started?

Only if what we find is genuinely different from what was quoted — rot behind a board, a leak behind a wall, a shut-off valve that will not close. In that case work stops and you get told what we found and what it changes, before anything more is done. There is no invoice at the end bigger than the conversation at the start.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. Most estimates cost us nothing but a few minutes at the form. Larger projects get a free visit first. We do not charge a call-out fee to come and look.

Do materials come out of that price?

Materials are on top and billed at cost unless the quote says otherwise. You are welcome to supply your own — plenty of people buy their own fixtures, paint or blinds and we fit them.

How do I pay?

Once the work is done and you have looked at it. Ask when you book if you need a specific method and we will sort it out then.

What we do not take on

Saying this up front saves you a phone call. If your job is on this list, we are not the right people and we would rather you found that out here than after describing it to us.

  • Plumbing or electrical that needs a permitThat is licensed-trade work. If a job crosses that line, we say so before we start — not with the water off.
  • Roof repair
  • Pressure washing
  • Appliance repair
  • House cleaning
  • Moving, loading or hauling

It costs less than dealing with things one at a time, and you get one number back for all of it.
