TV Mounting, Shelves & Blinds in Wendell, NC
In Wendell Falls the television is usually visible from the kitchen, the dining table and the sofa at the same time. Deciding which of those three you are actually mounting it for is most of the job.
One screen, three rooms
Wendell has an old town centre and a large planned development beside it, and the mounting work in each is close to the opposite of the other.
Start with Wendell Falls and the newer sections, because they raise a question a closed room never does: who is the screen actually for?
In an open plan the television is visible from the sofa, from the kitchen island and from the dining table. Those are three different distances, three different angles and three different reasons for looking at it. Somebody watching a film from the sofa wants the picture square on. Somebody following the news while cooking is forty-five degrees off it and twenty feet away.
A fixed plate serves one of those positions properly and compromises the others. In most of these houses an articulating arm is the right call — it lets the screen be angled at whoever is actually watching and folds flat against the wall when nobody is.
That is not an upsell for the sake of it. In a closed room we would recommend a fixed plate and save you the money.
The sound problem nobody expects
This is specific to open plans and it is the complaint we hear most in these houses: the dialogue is hard to follow.
It is almost never the television. Flat panels have essentially no cabinet, so their speakers are small and fire backwards or downwards into the wall. In a small carpeted room that just about works. In a large volume with hard floors, high ceilings and a kitchen at one end, there is nothing to reinforce it and speech gets lost.
A soundbar deals with most of it, and it is worth fitting properly rather than standing on the console:
- Mounted below the screen at the same setback, so it fires into the room rather than into a shelf edge
- At the right height, which is under the screen rather than down on the furniture where the sofa back blocks it
- Wired inside the wall to the same recessed plate the television uses, so there is one object on the wall instead of three and a bundle of cable
We fit soundbars at the same time as the mount, which is considerably cheaper than doing it as its own visit later.
Everything else about new construction
Wendell Falls houses are straightforward in every other respect. Flat drywall, regular framing, no fire blocking to interrupt a run, and frequently a structured wiring panel in a closet with a blank plate already behind the likely screen position. Where that exists we pull through it — nothing cut, nothing patched, nothing repainted.
Height still comes from the sofa rather than the wall. Open-plan rooms are often tall and the temptation to mount high is strong.
Blinds are the volume job, because production builds arrive with no window coverings at all. Tall windows in the main living space need proper access rather than a ladder, and that gets priced in.
Curtain rods in these rooms frequently span a wide opening at height. The bracket finds framing, and a long span usually needs a centre support that people forget to buy.
Downtown Wendell
The older streets are the opposite situation, and mostly an easier one for sound and sightlines: real rooms, with doors, and a single obvious place to sit.
What they bring instead is the standard older-house list:
Wall construction. Possibly plaster over lath, in which case fixings reach studs and nothing loads the plaster itself.
No socket where you want one. Common, and the tidy fix is a recessed outlet behind the screen fed properly from the existing circuit. The cheaper fix is a slim painted channel to the nearest socket. What does not happen is a standard extension lead inside a wall.
Smaller walls. Which brings the screen size question forward. Measure from where you sit to where the screen will be — a comfortable distance is somewhere between one and a half and two and a half times the screen width, and in a twelve-foot room that is a smaller television than most people are planning to buy.
Windows that are not stock sizes. Measured at three points, with the inside-versus-outside mount decided per window on the depth available.
Distance
Wendell is around forty-five minutes from us — the outer edge of what we cover. There is no travel charge, and we will be straight with you: a single mount at that distance is not good value on its own.
One visit with the television, the soundbar, blinds through the house and whatever else is on the list is how this works properly.

Send a photo of the wall, a second photo taken from the kitchen or wherever else the screen will be seen from, the screen size, and tell us whether you want sound sorted at the same time.
Open plans mean three viewing positions, not one
In these floor plans the screen is seen from the sofa, from the kitchen and from the dining table, and those are three different distances and three different angles. A fixed plate serves one of them well. An articulating arm serves all three adequately.
Open plans are hard on dialogue
A large volume with hard floors and no soft furnishings at one end makes speech difficult to follow. That is a room acoustics problem, and mounting a soundbar properly at the same time as the screen deals with most of it.
Downtown Wendell rooms are the opposite problem
The older streets have defined rooms with doors, which solves the sound and the sightlines but leaves you with smaller walls, older frames and possibly no socket where the screen wants to go.
TV & Wall Mounting in Wendell — questions
The TV is visible from the kitchen as well as the sofa. What mount do we need?
An articulating arm, in most cases. A fixed plate is set for one seat, and in an open plan that means the picture is compromised from the other two positions people actually use. An arm lets the screen be angled toward whoever is watching, and folds back flat when it is not in use.
We cannot hear the dialogue properly. Is that the television?
Usually it is the room rather than the set. Flat screens have almost no cabinet, so the speakers are small and firing backwards or downwards, and a large open plan with hard floors gives that nothing to work with. A soundbar mounted at the right height under the screen, wired rather than left on a shelf, fixes most of it. We fit them at the same time as the mount.
Can you mount a soundbar so nothing is visible?
Yes. It goes on a bracket below the screen at the same setback, with power and the connection run inside the wall to the same recessed plate the television uses. Done properly there is one visible object on the wall instead of three and a nest of cable.
