Doors, Locks & Carpentry

Doors that stick, drag or will not latch, locks that need to throw properly, trim that needs fitting, and the small carpentry jobs a contractor will not come out for.

Small fix, daily annoyance

A door that drags on the jamb, needs a shove to latch, or swings open on its own is one of those things you stop noticing and never stop being irritated by. It is almost always an adjustment rather than a replacement: a hinge shimmed, a strike moved a few millimetres, a hinge screw swapped for one long enough to reach framing.

We start with the cheap fix and only recommend a replacement when the slab or the frame is genuinely finished.

Locks and security hardware

Deadbolts only work if the bolt fully enters framing behind the jamb, not just the thin strike plate screwed to the casing. That gets checked on every lock install rather than assumed. Handlesets, deadbolts, smart locks, keyed-alike sets across a house, and strike reinforcement on exterior doors.

Trim and carpentry

Baseboards, door and window casings, crown, chair rail, and the trim repairs that come after other work. Mitres cut to the actual angle of the corner rather than 45 degrees on faith, because very few walls in a real house meet at 90.

Small custom builds too: shelving in an alcove, a window seat, a mantel, a folding counter in a laundry room, closet build-outs. These are quoted per project after we have seen the space, because the measurements and the material decide everything.

Where the carpentry is the room’s feature rather than a fitting, that belongs with accent and feature walls.

Getting a price

For a sticking door or a lock, a short video of the door closing tells us more than a photo. The sound and where it catches are the diagnosis. For trim and carpentry, photos plus rough dimensions.

Frequently asked

Why does my door stick only in summer?

Humidity swells the slab and the jamb, and settlement shifts the frame. Shimming the hinge side or easing the strike usually solves it year-round without taking the door down or planing off material you cannot put back.

Can you install a smart lock?

Yes, including the door prep if the existing bore does not match the new hardware, plus a strike alignment so the bolt throws fully instead of grinding. A smart lock that has to be forced closed will chew through batteries and eventually fail.

What counts as a small carpentry project?

Built-in shelving in an alcove, a bench or window seat, a mantel, trim work, a laundry folding counter, closet build-outs. If it is framing, sheathing or anything structural, that belongs to a general contractor and we will say so.

Do I need a new door or can this one be fixed?

Most doors that annoy people daily are a hinge or strike adjustment, not a replacement. We start with the cheap fix. A slab that is delaminating or badly warped, or a frame rotted at the bottom, is genuinely finished, and we will tell you that rather than charge for an adjustment that will not hold.

How to get a price

  1. 01

    Fill in the form

A sentence about the job and the address we would be coming to. Rough measurements help but are not essential — the address is the part we cannot work without.

  2. 02

    Get a number

Most jobs are priced from the form without anyone driving out. Bigger projects get a short visit first, and the estimate is free either way.

  3. 03

    Pick a time

The price is agreed before any work starts. We work 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, and take urgent jobs when we can.

Free estimate

Tell us what needs doing.

Fill in the form with a sentence about the job and the address. You get a straight price and a real window back, usually the same day you ask.
