Handyman in Garner
Two housing stocks in one town: 1960s-80s ranches and split-levels in the older parts, and new subdivisions filling in to the south.
An older town with new edges
Garner is two different jobs depending on which street you are on.
The established neighborhoods — Vandora Springs, Forest Hills, the streets around downtown — are largely 1960s through 1980s ranches and split-levels. Houses of that age are past the point where anything original is still original. Interior doors have dropped on their hinges, light fixtures and ceiling fans are on their second or third generation, and the drywall has finished moving, which means settlement cracks can be taped and finished permanently rather than filled and left to reopen.
South and east of that, along the corridors out toward Cleveland and Clayton, the housing is new. Those calls are the opposite: not repair but installation. Blinds in houses that came with none, TV walls, shelving, accent walls in rooms that were handed over as blank drywall.
What comes up most here
Drywall repair and interior painting lead, which is what you would expect in a town where a large share of the housing is thirty to sixty years old. Deck and porch work is close behind — decks built in the 1990s are now at the age where boards go soft and railings loosen at the post.
The feature-wall work tends to come from the newer south side, where ceilings are higher and the rooms are large enough to carry it.
Getting a price
Photos and a list. Most Garner jobs can be quoted without a visit, and it is worth sending everything at once rather than the one item that prompted you to get in touch.

How to get a price
- 01
Fill in the form
A sentence about the job and the address we would be coming to. Rough measurements help but are not essential — the address is the part we cannot work without.
- 02
Get a number
Most jobs are priced from the form without anyone driving out. Bigger projects get a short visit first, and the estimate is free either way.
- 03
Pick a time
The price is agreed before any work starts. We work 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, and take urgent jobs when we can.
Working in Garner — questions
Do you work on older ranch homes?
A lot of what we do in Garner is exactly that. Homes from the 1960s through the 1980s arrive at a predictable list — original fixtures at end of life, hollow-core interior doors that have dropped, popcorn ceilings, and bathrooms that have had one update since they were built.
How soon can you get to Garner?
It is about half an hour from Apex, so scheduling is comparable to the rest of our list. Send your list and a few photos and we will give you a real window rather than a vague promise.
